Headhunter takes his shot

A KICK to the head is his signature move and it is making waves in the kickboxing scene.
Doveton’s Ramesh ‘Headhunter’ Habib holds an International Sport Kickboxing Association Victorian title for a kickboxing fight in Sydney in June.
“I won in four rounds,” Ramesh said. “It was a very good feeling. A couple of weeks later, I fought the current Australian champion and knocked him out in the first round.”
With more fights lined up for this year, Ramesh wants the chance to take home the Australian title.
And then take on the world title and win that too.
The 18-year-old carpentry apprentice started kickboxing only three and a half years ago because he wanted to try something new. “Since I was a kid, my brother and I were always interested in fighting and martial arts,” he said. “I started doing Kung Fu before changing to kickboxing.”
Ramesh, who trains at Fighters Express in Dandenong with trainer Peter Hadden, said the chance to try his moves on other ‘friendly’ fighters was great.“There are heaps of boys and my brother Ramen, from the gym to train and spar with, and it helps me out a lot.”
For the time being, Ramesh is concentrating on his next fight on Saturday and fights coming up in October and November.
