A RECORD number of Rotarians and guests turned up to the District 9820 meeting last Tuesday night.
About 11 Rotarians from Dandenong and 13 from Dandenong East were among the 150 people that filled the function room at Settlers Run Golf and Country Club for the meeting, hosted by the Rotary Club of Cranbourne.
Phil Price and Sharon Champion from the Rotary Club of Kerang were invited as guest speakers to speak about their involvement in the Kerang floods and how Rotary helped the community.
Assistant Governor Tim Ahern, who organised the cluster meeting, said it was the best meeting he’d been to in a long time.
“The last big cluster meeting that we had was when I was president of Pakenham back in 2009, and we had about 120 people,” he said.
“Based on the support of the previous year, I thought if we got 60-80 I’d be very happy.
“It was a very well supported meeting and I’ve received quite some positive feedback – those who contacted me said it was an interesting night.
President of the Rotary Club of Cranbourne Paul Rice said he was very pleased with the venue, which helped to ensure the cluster meeting ran successfully.
“The country club was a very modern venue that did a great job of fitting everyone in,” Mr Rice said.
“I was very pleased with the number of Rotarians who came along on the night. I was surprised with the support because in the past we haven’t had that sort of support.
“It was very much a success.”
