BRAUN Mennusko is a Back to the Future buff.
In fact, the Eumemmerring resident is nicknamed Doc Braun, after the film’s character Doc Brown, has a replica of the time machine DeLorean car from the films and one of the largest collections of Back to the Future props and memorabilia in Australia.
“I started on the car 20 years ago and it took several cars to get the real DeLorean motor vehicle and because I’ve been doing it for so long some of the prop guys from the movie helped me out,” Mr Mennusko said.
“It’s fan heaven for me.”
He dresses up as Doc, or almost any Back to the Future character, and displays his collection for charities and at all kinds of events.
“I would be doing it at home anyway so rather than just have it behind glass, I want people to enjoy it,” the 44-year-old said.
“It takes people back and I’ve have the biggest and toughest guys sit in that car and light up. I honestly can’t think of one person that has sat in that car that hasn’t glowed with excitement.”
Mr Mennusko insists his work isn’t all about dressing up and having fun – it has helped many people.
“The principle of the movie is that what you do today changes tomorrow and that is still relevant today.”
“I love the car and I love the movie but it also has a lot to teach us.”
Next month Mr Mennusko will be doing his bit for Parkinson’s Victoria by getting into character and displaying his eccentric car at an exclusive screening of the three Back to the Future films at The Astor Theatre.
The screening is part of worldwide celebrations of the 25th anniversary of the final film.
It is the first time all three films have been screened in Victoria since they were originally released in 1985, 1989, and 1990 and are now digitally remastered.
Movie-goers and Back to the Future buffs are encouraged to dress as their favourite character and have a photo taken with Doc and the DeLorean.
The screening will be from 4pm on Saturday 5 November at The Astor Theatre, St Kilda.
