AS ONE door closes another door opens.
The door has closed on this year’s Opening Doors Community Leadership Program for Social Inclusion but it is not the end for the program.
A graduation ceremony and project expo was held this month to celebrate the completion of this 2011 program.
Project Manager Jane Oldfield said the graduation day was fantastic and the participants got into the spirit of the day.
“The graduates got so dressed up (in national dress), it was like being at the Logies,” she said.
‘It was a real celebration of family and friends and there was a really lovely energy.”
The Opening Doors Program aims to address social isolation in the local communities of Greater Dandenong and Casey by encouraging participants to develop a local project to connect community members.
Participants displayed their projects at the graduation day.
“Each participant did some form of display around their project so the community could have a conversation about what they’re doing,” Ms Oldfield said.
“It was a very inspiring event.”
She said Uniting Care Community Options was hoping to ran the program again next year and interested people are asked to call Ms Oldfield on 9239 2500 or email jane.oldfield@ucco.org.au
