KEYSBOROUGH came from nowhere to beat Dandenong West on Tuesday night in round three of the DDCA Twenty20 competition.
Keysborough was set 110 by Dandenong West with Wests batsman Matt Fielding top scoring with 27. Mushy Perera was the best of the Burras’ bowlers with 2/16.
In response, the Burras made the runs off the second-last ball of the match, with Jonathan Mohamed getting the final two runs required.
“We managed to get over the line,” Keysborough playing-coach Andre Peters said. “The light was pretty bad at the time as it was fading, but we got through – it went down to the wire and we beat them in the last over.
“In the last over we needed four runs and on the second-last delivery they got two runs – Johnno Mohamed hit the winning runs.”
Daniel Papa’s 43 was pivotal at the start of the innings for Keysborough, getting the Burras to 2/61, with Papa and Stevens making a 59-run partnership for the second wicket.
“Daniel batted pretty well,” Stevens said. “We lost a wicket early in the first over, then Daniel and I put on about 60-odd for the second wicket and Daniel got out but we had good partnerships in the middle section of the innings.
“Jake Hennigan got a quick seven runs, in the second to last over and it got us back on track.”
North Dandenong managed the upset of the round to beat Parkfield by 18 runs at Lois Twohig Reserve. Norths set the Bears a chase of 117, with Craig Gunawardana top scoring on 31. Hemantha Alles took 4/22 and Steve Spoljaric claimed 3/25.
In reply, Parkfield finished their overs at 9/96, with Hemantha Alles top scoring on 22. Shane Clark took 4/21 to help Norths take the victory.
Buckley Ridges continued to flex its muscles as the Twenty20 team to beat with a 64-run thumping of Mordialloc.
Te Ahu Davis was the chief destroyer of Mordialloc, belting 43 not out with good support from Daniel Watson (31) as the pair put on 61 for the fourth wicket. Davis kicked on with Suren Ekanayake (16) to push the Ridges to 6/170.
Mordialloc was unable to mount much of a fight to get the total, losing regular wickets on the way to 106 in 16 overs. Matt Newman held on as wickets tumbled around him, making 26 before getting dismissed by Wes Nicholas off an Ekanayake stumping at 6/70.
Niranjan Kumar (20) and Liam Bence (10) hit some urgently needed sixes, but it was too late by that stage to make a comeback as Mordialloc were bowled out on 106.
