Light at end of book row

LIGHTHOUSE Christian College has congratulated students dealing with a mix-up in VCA texts for their Literature class.
In a prepared statement Avril Howard, Assistant Principal of Lighthouse Christian College, the eight Year 12 Literature students had shown resilience.
“We understand and sympathise with parents and students who find this situation stressful and we are providing them with our support and advice,” she said.
“We appreciate the understanding being shown by parents and congratulate the eight students on their resilience.”
Literature students at Lighthouse Christian College had studied Julia Leigh’s ‘The Hunter’ but discovered the novel was not on the prescribed reading list during the VCE exam.
Ms Howard said the school advised Victorian Curriculum and Assessment Authority (VCAA) as soon as the mistake was uncovered and was now working with the VCAA to ensure students were not disadvantaged.
“The college is working closely within the established processes for such situations that VCAA has in place to ensure that the eight students sitting the exam will not be disadvantaged,” Ms Howard said.
“The college will examine why it was that the students did not have the right text and will ensure that such a situation does not arise again.”
A spokesperson from the VCAA said they were looking into the incident but no students would be disadvantaged by the mistake.
“It does happen occasionally that schools teach the wrong text to students,” he said.
“Our process ensures that no students are disadvantaged and that they receive a fair assessment for what they have done.”
