IN the battle of the bears, Berwick knocked off Parkfield by three runs in round four of the DDCA Twenty20 competition.
Steve Spoljaric (29) and Dale Harris (25) put together 48 for the second wicket, but Parkfield couldn’t maintain the pace as they finished their overs 9/118. Jarrod Goodes took 2/22. In response, Berwick took 18 overs to catch the total, with Bob Francis (37 not out) and Josh Holden (24) making light work of the chase.
Keysborough took the points against Cranbourne after fighting back from 4/38 to post 6/128. Mushy Perera (40 not out) and Michael Downie (44) put together a 63-run partnership to get the Burras to the competitive total.
Cranbourne batted out their overs, but three quick wickets at the death knell meant they weren’t able to get across the line, making 5/125.
Buckley Ridges smashed Narre South by 105 runs. Buckley batted first with Andrew Borgonha striking 58, ably assisted by Troy Aust (30 not out) and Craig Batchelor (29).
In reply, Narre South couldn’t generate a big partnership and in the end it was content to bat out the overs and get to 6/65. Matt Goodwright took 3/11 was on a hat-trick, but didn’t get it, with the LBW shout given not out.
Mordialloc’s Liam Buchanan came close to the first Twenty20 century of the summer – making 92 – as the Bloodhounds took a 31-run victory over Narre North. Mordialloc smashed 5/181, with Buchanan and Chathura Athukorala (38) making life difficult for the visitors.
In response, Narre North battled hard to get to 9/150 after its 20 overs. Scott Brandon made 36.
In other results, Silverton defeated Coomoora by three wickets. Doveton beat Narre Warren by 23 runs. St Mary’s defeated Fountain Gate by 14 runs. Hallam Kalora Park knocked off Dandenong West by 17 runs in spite of 65 not out from Wests captain Anthony Brannan. Heinz Southern Districts beat North Dandenong by two runs. Lyndale defeated Springvale South (no results available).
