Memeti’s soft corner for Dandy South

By Nicole Williams
DANDENONG South is like one big family says a long-term resident, despite ranking in the bottom 10 in a liveability survey.
In a special edition of The Age’s The Melbourne Magazine called Our Liveable City, released last week, Dandenong South ranked 305th, out of 314 suburbs.
The rankings were based on a study called Liveable Melbourne by Tract Consultants and Deloitte Access Economics, and was based on data using 14 different criteria.
But Councillor Jim Memeti, who has lived in Dandenong South since his parents migrated to the area from Albania when he was young, said the area was a great place to live.
“Dandenong South is my home because of the family and friends in the area,” he said.
“I’m sure I can speak for a lot of people, when I say people are very happy here.”
“A lot of people don’t move out of the area because of the locality.”
Cr Memeti said the suburb is within easy reach of ‘everything you want in Central Dandenong’, local sporting groups, a mosque, schools as well as the Monash Freeway and Eastlink.
“A few families have moved, but a lot move back to Dandenong South and bring their kids back to Dandenong South Primary School,” he said.
“It’s just a great place to live.”
The top ranked Greater Dandenong suburb was Springvale South, which was ranked at 148.
