THE decorations and flashing lights are back on in Smale Court, Noble Park North.
For six consecutive years, Gail and Brent Herbert decorated the family home to raise funds for Golden Care for Children in Hyatt but after taking a year off, the lights will flash for a new charity. The couple will collect money for the Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia, after prostate cancer affected their friends during the year.
“We’re feeling good this time because we’re doing it for prostate cancer,” Ms Herbert said.
“We’ve had two close friends die this year and it’s a good cause.”
It is a family tradition, first started by Ms Herbert’s mother who collected for Golden Care for Children.
“My mum and dad used to do it with my brothers and sisters,” she said.
“My parents used to help us collect here and then I lost my mum and my dad three years later so it’s like a family thing.”
This year, the display includes a Santa house, snowmen, reindeer and lots of light and activity.
The lights have attracted hundreds of people in the past and Ms Herbert said they still hoped to attract a crowd who would be willing to donate to the cause.
For a gold coin donation, anyone can view the Christmas display, and on some nights, even Santa makes an appearance.
All proceeds from the display go directly to the Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia.
