Rangers off to flying start

DANDENONG Rangers registered resounding wins to start off the newly launched Victorian Youth Championship basketball league.The Rangers men started their campaign with a 99-54 thumping of Hawthorn Magic – reeling off a mammoth 41-11 final quarter to signal their premiership intent.
Sharing the stats around, the best of the Rangers was Ben Gaze (21 points, 12 rebounds) and John Creighton (17 points) while Kayne Ewin (10 points, 16 rebounds) attained a double-double.
In the preceding women’s season opener, Dandenong’s usual suspects made light work of the Diamond Valley Eagles, winning 80-48. Rangers star development players of recent years Georgi Lovelace (16 points, five rebounds), Emma Gilsenan (13 points) and Bridget Deery (12 points) all hit the scoreboard while former Big V Melbourne Tiger Geraldine McCorkell (13 points, seven rebounds) fit in to the Dandenong set-up with ease as coach Brad Wright rotated his charges around in the thrashing.
Dandenong will face Eltham in the men’s competition on Saturday while the women square off with Bendigo on Sunday.
