I WORK in a medical practice in Hallam owned and run by a group of doctors who all arrived in Australia as refugees, travelling by boat from Vietnam.
They have dedicated their lives to serving the community, providing bulk-billed health care to the ever growing population of the south eastern suburbs. Will this opportunity ever be available to current asylum seekers, who could be the future doctors of Australia?
It is a joy to walk into our waiting room each day to be greeted by a colourful scene – an elderly world war veteran chats to the gentleman sitting beside him from Afghanistan – a little Sudanese boy plays on the floor with a girl whose grandparents are refugees from Poland – there is a buzz of chatter in a multitude of languages – and we wouldn’t want it any other way.
