Victorian Sub-District Cricket Association – qualifying final

SATURDAY stars aligned with Oakleigh (8/306) as Noble Park (252) was left with a mountain of runs to climb.
In the Victorian Sub-District Cricket Association (VSDCA) qualifying final a pair of cheap early wickets were snared by Noble Park, taken by quicks Johan Vorster (1/49) and Rizan Mawzoon (3/53).
It forced an Oakleigh revival which started earnestly through middle-order batsman Brent Warren (111 not out). Warren was the stand-out as he sent the Bulls running to all parts of Warrawee Park with his 11 boundaries in the unbeaten knock.
With Lee Hodgson (61) and Jarrod Travaglia (33) running good support for Warren, Oakleigh moved rapidly past the double-century to leave Noble Park with an almighty chase on Sunday afternoon.
Despite the best efforts of Marasinghe Perera (86) – guiding the chase with Johan Vorster (35) and Ben Edmunds (26), the Bulls couldn’t surpass the Oakleigh target – dismissed for 252 in 74.5 overs.
Under the final-six system in the VSDCA, Noble Park survives the defeat and will face Werribee at Chirnside Park for a chance to advance to the VSDCA grand final.
