SEABL – round
THE Brisbane swing paid off for Dandenong with a 99-79 win over the Spartans.
Brisbane’s early push left the Rangers on the back-foot, trailing by three points at half-time, but from that point on the match belonged to the southern visitors.
The interstate rampage of Tony Lewis (33 points, 15 rebounds) and Daequon Montreal (22 points, 8 rebounds) left Brisbane smashed apart. Dandenong’s dominant duo surged the Rangers ahead 53-30 after half-time to run out 20-point winners and leave the league wondering how to stop the pair.
This has been the standout season in Lewis’ SEABL career – moving his average up to 24 points and 12 rebounds a game in 2014.
Calvin Enge (12 points) and Brent Hobba (10 points, 8 rebounds) also had standout nights in the victory – which takes Dandenong to third in the SEABL East before its double-header against Knox and Albury-Wodonga this weekend.
The trip was much tougher for SEABL ladies’ coach of the month Larissa Anderson and her Rangers – downed 55-74 by Brisbane.
Standing tall for her first double-double in Rangers colours for many seasons, Jacinta Kennedy (16 points, 10 rebounds) showed she is still a threatening inside force. Amelia Todhunter (10 points, 8 rebounds) and Tenaya Phillips (8 points, 5 rebounds) also impressed.
BIG V – round
SHOWING their chops at the top of the ladder, Keysborough claimed an 84-66 battle against Maccabi. Sharing the points, Eric Miraflores (20 points), Nathaniel O’Hara (18 points) and Jackson Houpt (15 points, 8 rebounds) impressed en route to the Cougars’ ninth win of the year.
The Cougars’ women pushed Chelsea Gulls throughout a 47-69 loss. Outscoring the Gulls in the last term will be a proud talking point for the newly anointed team as Lucinda Johnson (8 points, 11 rebounds) and Sarah Collins (7 points, 10 rebounds) led the charge.
Keysborough men faced Pakenham and the women clashed with Melbourne University Black Angels on Sunday after the Journal went to print.
Keysborough men face another double-header this weekend as it heads to Coburg on Saturday before driving down to Mornington on Sunday. The women head to Coburg on Saturday to aim for win number three in the Cougars’ inaugural Big V season.
