Fire destroys warehouse

Fire engulfed a Hallam warehouse on Thursday 9 November, causing the roof to collapse and sending smoke over surrounding suburbs.
Grace Removals said the fire broke out at its Decor Drive site just before 9.30pm and was contained to a mechanic’s garage. No one was injured.
“Grace reports that the removals and storage warehouse remains unaffected and open for business,” a statement from the company said.
“Grace is currently working with authorities to evaluate the cause of the fire.”
Managing director Steven Brown thanked the responding fire crews for containing the flames.
“All of their efforts to keep the damage to a minimum are greatly appreciated,” he said.
A CFA spokeswoman said firefighters arrived to find a 50 metre by 20 metre steel and concrete shed at the rear of the property fully alight.
The intense blaze caused the roof to collapse so firefighters were unable to enter the building.
About 30 firefighters attended in 15 vehicles from brigades including Hallam, Narre Warren, Hampton Park, Narre Warren North, Dandenong and Frankston.
They deployed Dandenong’s aerial ladder and the teleboom – small ladder – from Frankston, and firefighters wore breathing apparatus.
