A power pole fell onto a police car during a chase in Dandenong South.

State Highway Patrol officers were using laser speed detectors on the Pound Road overpass about 11.15am on Wednesday 6 June.

They allegedly detected a white Holden Commodore speeding north along the South Gippsland Freeway.

A second highway patrol vehicle tried to intercept the sedan as it exited the South Gippsland Highway onto the Princess Highway.

The driver mounted the centre median strip and the vehicle then clipped a power pole, which fell onto a police car’s bonnet and a Volkswagen Tiguan’s roof.

The senior constable and constable in the police car and the Volkswagen driver, a man in his mid-seventies, were not injured.

The Holden turned right into Doveton Avenue before four youths dumped the car in Gumbuya Close, Eumemmerring, and fled.

Police were making inquiries in relation to the Holden.
