KEYSBOROUGH Cougars incoming senior women’s basketball team – slated to join the Big V in 2014 – had their first experience of the level’s toughness.
The Cougars women didn’t pick up a win in their three pre-season tournament matches, but were valiant in their 47-62 loss to Mornington, rallying back from a 3-17 third quarter to outscore the Breakers 13-8 in the final term.
Their other two matches weren’t as promising with a 25-52 loss to Werribee and a 20-42 loss to Casey on Sunday morning. Leading the way against Casey were Natalie Bjelan (seven points), Keira Lee (four) and Ratika Palat (three). The Cougars youth men’s team was knocked out by Mornington in a 49-52 nailbiter.
The senior men’s and youth men’s Cougars sides take on Melton this weekend, their first match back at Springers Leisure Centre in Keysborough. The youth men start at 4pm and the senior match commences at 7pm.
