A SPRINGVALE South tradie is $3 million richer following last Thursday’s Powerball draw – just days after almost giving up his lucky numbers.
The 55-year-old, who’s chosen to remain anonymous, discovered he’d taken out the division one prize at work early on Friday morning.
“I was reading the paper and when I saw those numbers I nearly choked on my coffee!” he told a Tatts official.
“I told the guys at work and they were really happy for me, they said I was deserving of it.”
The new multimillionaire said he would use the money to pay his mortgage, help his loved ones, and maybe take an overseas holiday.
“I’m not married, but I might be soon,” he laughed.
The man was the first division one winner in the new Powerball game, launched on 7 March.
He had the six winning numbers drawn from 40 plus the Powerball number drawn from 20 numbers.
He had been playing with the same numbers for 20 years but had to add another for the new competition.
“I was actually going to change all of my Powerball numbers this week, but the newsagent said not to worry about that, the computer could just randomly selection me a new one to add to mine,” he said.
“The computer picked the number eight for me, and that’s the number that helped me win in last night’s draw.”
He purchased the ticket from Southvale Newsagency in Springvale South.
