Neighbourhood character overlooked

By CASEY NEILL

A PROPOSED three-storey, 44-unit development in Keysborough failed to respect neighbourhood character and overdeveloped the 362 Cheltenham Road site.
This was the word from City of Greater Dandenong councillor Roz Blades as she successfully urged fellow councillors to refuse a permit for the project at Monday’s council meeting.
Cr Blades said it was next door to a childcare centre and kindergarten.
“The development fails on that site for those reasons, and I think it also fails in terms of bulk,” she said.
Councillor Matthew Kirwan said it was a more visually-appealing design than other developments and included a children’s play area, so the council should support it.
But Cr Blades said: “The fact that it is slightly better than some of the other developments in this city does not make it suitable on this site.”
“If we had better developments elsewhere, this would be unsuitable, is the logic here,” she said.
