Club turns the corner

DANDENONG’s Drum Theatre will premiere a new national tour of The Club on 26 April.
It stars Gold Logie Award winner John Wood in the role of Jock, and is returning to the stage after a successful tour in 2007-08.
“The Club is one of the funniest Australian plays ever written,” Mr Wood said.
“In my opinion it’s got the best first-act ending line of any play, Australian or otherwise.
“It makes absolutely certain the audience will be back to see act two!”
Denis Moore will direct the David Williamson play.
“I love working with Denis as a director and I’m really looking forward to working with him on this. It’ll be great fun,” Mr Wood said.
The Club is a tale of greed and corruption in the world of sport, based on the culture of VFL/AFL.
It follows the seismic shift of Australian sport as the influence of the corporate dollar takes the club from being managed as a sporting club to being managed as a business.
The culture and rituals of the old are torn to shreds as the mighty dollar takes over.
The play hits the stage at 8pm on Friday 26 April at The Drum Theatre, corner Lonsdale and Walker streets, Dandenong.
Tickets are $45 for adults, $40 concession, $35 for drum members, $40 for groups of four or more, and $25 for under-25s.
Tickets are available from the Drum Theatre Box Office on 9771 6666 or at www.drumtheatre.com.au.
