Star’s top award

THE Greater Dandenong Star took home the southern division Special Publication award at this year’s Community Newspapers Australia Awards for Excellence on 14 June.
The award recognised its Greater Dandenong Chamber of Commerce 2011 Premier Regional Business Awards wrap, published on 22 March last year.
The judges said it was an awards supplement that didn’t look or feel like an awards supplement.
“It looks and feels more like a good newspaper that you would want to pick up and read even if you had little interest in the subject matter,” they said.
Star News Group managing director Paul Thomas said the performance by Dandenong Star reflected the level of commitment shown by the entire staff.
“This is a wonderful reward for the hard work and dedication shown by our news team, who strive each week to make the Star the best local paper in the area,” he said.
“We are always looking for that right balance between investigative journalism that shines a light on serious issues in the local area and stories that celebrate the achievements of the wonderful communities in which we live.”
