A MAN was clipped when he ran in front of a train as it pulled into Springvale station last Thursday.
Detective Senior Constable Nick Lamb of the Dandenong CIU said the St Albans man, 22, was lucky to be alive.
Boom and pedestrian gates were down and sirens were sounding as the train approached the station at 8.37am.
“He climbed under the pedestrian gate from the north side of Springvale Road, ran across the tracks in front of the train and was clipped.”
The man, who had minor injuries but refused treatment, was issued a penalty notice by Protective Services Officers and later spoken to by police, before walking away with a group.
“People need to take note around trains, be safe and cross at appropriate times. He is very lucky in this instance that he wasn’t killed,” Detective Senior Constable Lamb said, adding that in his 12 years as a policeman, he had never seen someone walk away from being hit by a train.
