WE CARE Community Service will receive $25,000 for a new van if a Coalition Government is elected on 7 September.
Liberal candidate for Bruce Emanuele Cicchiello made the announcement at the Dandenong North centre yesterday (Wednesday) and said the van would help deliver parcels of food, items of clothing, blankets and toys to families suffering hardship in Greater Dandenong.
“The team at We Care Community Services do so much to support individuals and families in our community who are struggling physically, emotionally and financially, and I wanted to be able to assist them to continue and expand their good work,” he said.
“When I met with We Care’s CEO Mang Cheong, he told me that the non-profit organisation’s existing van is more than 15 years old and urgently needs to be replaced.
“We Care depends on the van to pick up food from Foodbank and to deliver food parcels, clothing, linen and other necessities to and from both Helping Hand Centres, in Springvale and Dandenong, and to the members of our community who rely upon them.”
Mr Cicchiello said the new van would enable We Care to continue its existing service and increase the number of people it assists in years to come.
“It is very important to me that we do everything possible to support disadvantaged families in our community, many of whom receive assistance on a weekly basis,” he said.
“I am committed to supporting community and church groups in the important role that they play in bringing us together to look after those in need.”
