Police to scoop up criminals

VIOLENT criminals on the run in Greater Dandenong will attract extra police attention in coming months.
The Critical Incident Response Team (CIRT) last week launched Operation Summoning in Brimbank.
It will see crews deployed to six high-risk areas across the state, including Greater Dandenong, to hunt down outstanding offenders actively avoiding apprehension or with a history of violent behaviour.
CIRT crews will also help local police target offenders on bail under strict conditions and curfews, to ensure they’re not breaching the terms.
Acting Senior Sergeant Mick Turner said the operation was putting tactical police out into the regions to support local police in dealing with potentially volatile situations.
“CIRT members are trained in tactical policing and equipped with the skills to deal with dangerous offenders,” he said.
“We’ll be using strong intelligence to track down these offenders and frequenting high-risk community locations where recidivist offenders are likely to pass through.”
