THREE Greater Dandenong schools last week received cash to reduce their energy use and promote sustainability.
Athol Road Primary School in Springvale South, Dandenong High School and Wooranna Park Primary School in Dandenong North received grants through the State Government’s ResourceSmart Australian Sustainable Schools Initiative (AuSSI).
Environment and Climate Change Minister Ryan Smith said they were among 189 schools to receive up to $10,000 for energy audits, installing energy-efficient light bulbs, door and window draught seals or small wind generators, or replacing less energy-efficient appliances.
“The grants can also be used for energy efficiency training for staff, or for guest speakers to provide knowledge and motivation to staff and students,” Mr Smith said.
A total of 400 grants of up to $10,000 will be awarded in 2013 and 2014.
