POLICE are confident they’ve quelled the latest bikie violence outbreak in the south east, but are ready to pounce on any resurgence.
“We’ll meet outrageous violence with a very swift and determined response,” Southern Region Acting Assistant Commissioner Doug Fryer told the News.
“Any brazen displays of violence will simply not be tolerated.”
Mr Fryer said more than 170 police members were involved in addressing this week’s shootings. On Tuesday they arrested eight bikies and seized loaded handguns, explosives and illicit drugs.
“Ten illegal firearms off the street is significant,” he said.
“A number of the key instigators are on remand.
“It doesn’t mean that the violence won’t reignite, but what can be seen from our response on this occasion is what will happen should it escalate again.
“We want the community to be absolutely aware that when these guys mucked up, Victoria Police was very swift in their response.
“With any public displays of violence, innocent people can get hurt.
“Even if it’s bikie on bikie, it’s absolutely unacceptable.”
Mr Fryer said investigations into the outlaw motorcycle gang activity were continuing.
He said police wouldn’t specifically monitor the businesses involved on this occasion but they would be part of the broader investigation.
