Media training for youth

YOUNG leaders are putting mental health issues in Greater Dandenong community in the spotlight.
The 16 students are receiving media training at state-of-the-art screen, media and design facility Chisholm@311, through the City of Greater Dandenong Young Leaders Program.
They’ll produce a documentary series covering mental health issues like depression, anxiety and eating disorders, and using education as a vehicle for people to reach their potential and dream big.
The short films will be distributed and uploaded to social media.
The Young Leaders Program provides an opportunity for 16 to 25-year-olds to increase their participation in the economic, social, cultural and business aspects of their community.
In its fifth year, the program helps participants become effective leaders and teaches them to work as a team to develop and deliver community projects.
Chisholm@311 interactive media and arts manager, Nathan Fitzgerald, said the project gave participants units towards the TAFE’s Certificate IV in Screen and Media, which could lead to the Bachelor of Interactive Media Design.
