CONSTRUCTION workers in orange vests are regarded as heroes when they walk into Springvale Park Special Developmental School.
And for good reason.
Up to 85 workers on the Springvale level crossing removal project each chipped in funds at their weekly Saturday barbecues on-site, saving up $1600 for play equipment for the school – an inflatable rolling cage, ten-pin bowling set and a giant beach ball.
Students had been taking a keen interest in the workers’ digging and building behind hoardings just across from their Sandown Road campus.
The school’s perimeter fence is decorated by students’ cheery illustrations, each a celebration of Springvale’s imminent transformation.
Students warmly thanked the workers for their new toys; their thanks confirmed by their carefree smiles as each took a spin in the rolling cage.
