CHEP moved into a purpose-built facility in Taylors Road, Dandenong South, in September 2008.
Awards chairman James Sturgess said the project involved taking a greenfield site and building the premises from the ground up to maximise efficiencies and accommodate growth.
The Dandenong site has the largest capacity of all CHEP Australia service centres and is among the 10 largest in CHEP’s global network.
CHEP has a dedicated sustainability manager, captures data from each site for sustainability reporting and is proud to have been nominated for a variety of sustainability awards.
These efforts have earned it the Greater Dandenong Chamber of Commerce 2013 Corporate and Social Responsibility Award.
CHEP Australia donates time and money to the communities in which it operates, including through an annual career day for underprivileged teens run in conjunction with the Smith Family.
The Dandenong South operation’s key product is wooden pallets, but Mr Sturgess said the business as a whole was much more diverse.
“Crates, containers and reusable retail ready packaging are also part of the equipment pool,” he said.
“Multiple customers collectively benefit from the network scale of the pool through shared use of pallets and containers.
“The pooling model eliminates costly one-way packaging systems, or the need for customers to purchase and manage their own pool of reusable equipment.”
CHEP also won the Employment award and was nominated for the Manufacturing, Service Excellence and Premier Regional Business awards.
