Greater Dandenong Council is expecting no shortage of parking spaces in the centre of the city after the opening of the civic plaza and library.
Mayor Jim Memeti said the centre provides 25 spaces for the public and spaces for council staff who have a disability or who have to work beyond 9pm.
The building’s 300 council staff will use reserved long-stay parking in the Thomas Street multi-deck carpark.
Casual parking is restricted to the bottom two storeys during business hours.
Walker Street car park is also a mix of permit and casual parking, though any member of the public can apply for permits, Cr Memeti said.
Both multi-decks have extended opening-hours for diners as well as for staff and students at education and training businesses.
Cr Memeti said the CBD was “well serviced” with 10,000 parking spaces within easy walking distance, as well as train and bus links.
“Consultation with a range of stakeholders including the Dandenong Retail Traders Association on a car-parking strategy is underway,” he said.
He said the draft would be offered for community consultation.
