Solicit sting charges

ELEVEN people will face prostitution charges following another sting in the Dandenong CBD.
Police ran the operation targeting clients and street sex workers on 19 March after local residents and businesses raised concerns.
Acting Sergeant Leigh Mackey said officers were proactively patrolling problem areas in central Dandenong.
“All persons charged can expect a summons to be personally delivered to their home address,” he said.
“The police strongly discourage the solicitation of prostitutes and further operations to reduce this activity are expected to be undertaken in the future.”
Last month the Journal reported that eight gutter crawlers would have to cough up $4000 in fines after they were arrested for soliciting police officers who were posing as prostitutes.
Police wore recording equipment to collect evidence during sting operations on Scott Street on 12 September and 14 November.
The operations followed a Star News Group report in February last year that a 70-year-old woman was propositioned outside her Scott Street home and a story in July that gutter crawlers propositioned a 19-year-old girl as she waited for a bus in Scott Street.
