DANDENONG Primary School has educated thousands of pupils since it opened its doors 140 years ago.
Many former students returned to the Foster Street school grounds to celebrate the milestone at a community fun day on Saturday.
Dandenong’s first state school was originally on the corner of Robinson and Foster streets, and officially opened its classrooms on 4 May 1874.
The site was considered too dangerous for children once the Gippsland Railway opened, and the school relocated to its present site on 4 March 1881.
