AMBULANCE paramedics have removed and revived an unconscious man from a burning car in Dandenong South last night.
Advanced life support paramedics Amanda Stolk and Colin Kicker attended to the car and its two male occupants parked on Frankston-Dandenong Road within four minutes after being called by by-standers.
Mr Kicker said the quick response from bystanders in calling for an ambulance – as well as him removing the man – had helped save the man’s life.
“I don’t see it as a heroic act (from myself).
“My job is to save people’s lives if in danger and that is what I’ve done.”
Mr Kicker said when the paramedics arrived, flames were “lapping” from under the car’s rear and within the rear of the passenger compartment.
He first opened the front passenger door, advising a conscious man to immediately evacuate the car.
“From there I saw an unconscious patient in the driver’s seat.
“From there, I’ve gone around to the driver’s door, opened that door, undone his seatbelt and removed him from the vehicle by his arms,” Mr Kicker said.
“The flames were growing in intensity (at the time).”
The paramedics revived the unconscious man, who was suffering smoke inhalation, within a few minutes by feeding him oxygen via a face mask.
The man, aged in his forties, was taken to Dandenong Hospital in a stable condition.
