FOR the first time, CFA and emergency services will be co-ordinating their south-east Melbourne disaster response under the one roof.
The $5 million CFA district headquarters, which includes a regional emergency management complex for all emergency services, opened in Dandenong South last week.
Police and Emergency Services Minister Kim Wells said the result would be better emergency response capability in the region.
The set-up would strengthen ties between the CFA and police, MFB, Department of Environment and Primary Industries, SES, Department of Human Services and VicRoads during emergencies, he said.
“This important new hub will be a fantastic resource for CFA and other emergency services organisations who are the backbone of Victoria’s emergency response.”
South eastern metropolitan region MP Gordon Rich-Phillips said the building would bring together emergency management services previously spread across Oakleigh, Dandenong, Pakenham and Moorooduc.
“For the first time in CFA history an incident control centre, a district command centre and a regional control centre will be housed under the one roof,” Mr Rich-Phillips said.
Liberal candidate for Dandenong Joanna Palatsides and south-eastern metropolitan region MP Inga Peulich also attended the announcement.
