STEPS around a Noble Park athletics track will support the fight against cancer.
Greater Dandenong Relay for Life at Ross Reserve on 11 and 12 October has so far raised more than $22,000 for Cancer Council Victoria.
The total could reach $25,000 as the 150 participants across 12 teams collect all their fundraising pledges.
Chandler Park Primary School teacher Julie McCrimmon made good on her pledge to shave her head if her team, the Chandler Cruisers, raised more than $2000.
“I was happy to do it. But I’m definitely feeling the cold now,” she said.
“It was just fantastic. My husband was so good – he went around to a lot of businesses that he deals with and they all gave money.
“Everybody was really generous.
“I read the oath at the end of the event and I did get quite emotional and the candlelight ceremony was also very emotional.
“The idea of a cancer-free world would just be amazing.
“At the moment, there’s so many people going through cancer and everything that goes along with it.
“It’s not just the people who are sick, but the people who are left behind.”
