DANDENONG Salvation Army is working hard to make sure thousands of kids wake up to toys on Christmas morning.
Corps officer Captain Stuart McGifford said its community support service in Doveton was the distribution point for toys to Salvos centres across eastern Victoria.
“Over the next three months, the normally quiet toy section will spring into life as more than 20,000 gifts are being prepared for delivery,” he said.
“Youth groups, corporate groups and school groups will be volunteering in the centre, ensuring the toys are packed and sorted for boys and girls and for different ages.
“Regardless of people’s religious background, Christmas in Australia is an important time for families and we hope the provision of toys to families who are struggling will make Christmas a special time for everyone.”
Donations of new toys, gift vouchers, non-perishable food or money for The Salvation Army’s Christmas work can be made at 1a Frawley Road, Doveton, or 55 James Street, Dandenong.
