STREET lights across Greater Dandenong will soon be using 77 per cent less energy.
Over the next 12 months the City of Greater Dandenong will switch more than 5000 mercury vapour street lights with new LED technology.
It will complete the project in partnership with the Federal Government’s Community Energy Efficiency Program.
Mayor Sean O’Reilly said the council was committed to reducing its environmental footprint.
“The new LED street lights will improve visibility which, in turn, makes it easier to navigate at night and provides the community with improved perceptions of safety,” he said.
The council will partner with United Energy to install and maintain the new lights throughout the municipality.
