A NEW council charitable fund will help Greater Dandenong groups support the municipality’s most needy.
At their 27 July meeting councillors voted to establish the Greater Dandenong Charitable Fund to complement other community and government funding.
Individuals, groups, agencies and businesses will be able to contribute to the fund under a tax-deductible umbrella.
The council will appoint an advisory panel to promote fund-raising activities, advertise grant opportunities and make recommendations about allocating funds.
It will include the mayor and a councillor, a senior council officer, a Lord Mayors Charitable Foundation representative and independent community representatives.
A council report on the fund said the financial environment included government funding reductions to the community sector and changes to council’s revenue streams.
“A Greater Dandenong Charitable Fund will encourage community and business donations to support the important work of local charitable organisations and enhance the health and wellbeing of residents,” it said.
