Fire death not suspicious

By CAM LUCADOU-WELLS

POLICE have confirmed that the death of a woman in a unit fire in Dandenong on Tuesday night was not suspicious.
The body of the woman in her fifties was found by fire-fighters who were called to the blaze in a rear unit in Sheales Street about 7.10pm.
An Ambulance Victoria spokesman said another woman at the scene was taken to hospital.
An elderly man, who lived in the next-door unit, said a woman and her daughter had lived there for at least five years.
“I didn’t really know them. They were pretty quiet and kept to themselves.”
He said he never heard any arguments nor had he seen anything suspicious at the neighbouring residence.
Five fire trucks were called to the scene and had the blaze under control within five minutes, a CFA spokesman said.
Police are preparing a report for the State Coroner.
