Signed up for the banner

By CAM LUCADOU-WELLS

IT’S a once-in-150-years, special record of the times.
Disability-rights advocate Sharon Harris last week presented a 1.5 metre laminated banner to the Journal, congratulating the publication on its 150-year milestone.
She travelled the length and breadth of Greater Dandenong for two weeks, collecting about 80 messages from police, council chief executives, sports groups, a historical society, welfare organisations, places of worship, RSLs and businesses.
It included signatures of current and former Journal staff – dating back to the 1960s – collected at the launch of the newspaper’s commemorative edition at the Dandenong Club on Monday.
Ms Harris said the gesture was about “paying it forward”.
“The Journal has been a voice and a heart of our city.
“It’s a pleasure to give back because the Journal has been supporting people for so long.”
