DANDENONG’S decrepit ambulance station is set for an overhaul.
The State Government today announced the station and five others will be rebuilt as part of a $20 million package.
In a statement, the government described the Dandenong branch as one of the state’s busiest but working out of facilities “inadequate for a modern ambulance service”.
“It has no rest facilities for paramedics, and the building is in extremely poor condition,” it stated.
The station will be replaced with a “state-of-the-art” branch, with spacious garages and lounge areas, a kitchen and training rooms.
Premier Daniel Andrews said the stations would be upgraded to be “fit-for-purpose”, “safe” and “comfortable” for paramedics.
“Some of these stations have been around for over 50 years, and if we’re to have a modern ambulance service, we need to have modern facilities.”
The other upgraded stations are in Kew, Preston, Sale, Echuca and Orbost.
