GREATER Dandenong wrote off almost $1.1 million in bad or doubtful debts last financial year.
This was almost $300,000 above the budgeted $818,000.
The council’s corporate services director Mick Jaensch said the figures primarily related to parking infringements older than five years or no longer collectable as per advice from the Infringements Court.
“The infringements are no longer collectable for a variety of reasons such as defendant deceased, order unenforceable, no goods to seize and invalid penalty,” he said.
Council’s $1m loss far from fine
