Schooled in building design

DANDENONG’S Mosaic apartment complex is being used as a benchmark for future developers.
About 50 fourth-year students from RMIT’s School of Property, Construction and Project Management on Friday 25 September spent a day at Mosaic and the proposed Forte Townhouses in Metro Village.
They learnt about the master-planned complex’s design, construction and marketing.
Burbank designed Mosaic in conjunction with architects Peddle Thorp and it includes 235 one-bedroom and two-bedroom apartments designed around a central landscaped court yard, three retail spaces and three office spaces.
Burbank’s senior development manager Rolland Gorriceta talked students through the development’s key features, addressing planning, urban form, off-the-plan sales, marketing, sustainability and environmental efficiencies.
Mr Gorriceta said the tour gave students an insight into what to expect when they graduated.
He said they learnt how and why the development came to be and the many town planning considerations involved in a large development.
“We were also fortunate to have Russel Tait, a project planner from the City of Greater Dandenong, on hand to talk about the development from a planning and community perspective,” he said.
Residential development sales and marketing company Red23 organised the event, which for the first time will form part of the students’ official assessment criteria.
