Do it for the kids

DANDENONG women are helping children in need to access education and asking others to lend a hand.
The Dandenong Evening VIEW Club sponsors three disadvantaged children through The Smith Family’s Learning for Life program.
Spokeswoman Brigitte Billimoria is urging others to join them to help The Smith Family reach its target of 2500 new child sponsors by the end of March.
Sponsorship includes financial support to pay for books, shoes, a complete school uniform and excursions; a co-ordinator to work with the child’s family and school; and access to learning support programs for homework and mentoring.
The Smith Family CEO Dr Lisa O’Brien said education “will show these children they can create a better future and it is the best chance they have to avoid a lifetime of disadvantage”.
VIEW stands for Voice, Interests and Education of Women and was established in 1960 by The Smith Family as a service to women and the community.
VIEW national president Gwen Wilton said club members sponsored 1150 students across Australia.
“The students’ determination to overcome disadvantage and make the most of their education is truly inspiring,” Ms Wilton said.
“Becoming a child sponsor is an opportunity to make a real and lasting difference to a child’s future.”
Visit www.thesmithfamily.com.au for more information about sponsoring a child.
