More space for school bursting at seams

DANDENONG South Primary students have more space to learn.
The school officially opened the Rina Main Learning Centre on Friday 3 June.
Principal Leonie Fitzgerald said that for a number of years the school had been considering how to best cater for growing enrolments without compromising playground space.
“It was decided that the renovation of the hall – which was built in 1974 – was the best option to provide a space that facilitates the delivery of a personalised approach to learning and teaching,” she said.
Ms Fitzgerald said fund-raising took place to make the plan a reality, and that school council members agreed unanimously on the name for the renovated building.
“Rina has been involved with Dandenong South Primary School since 1997, first as a parent and then as a school council member in 1998,” she said.
Ms Main took on the school council president role in mid-1998.
The Kirkam Road school has almost 600 pupils, and has a kindergarten on site.
Almost 87 per cent of students have origins outside Australia and represent more than 40 different nationalities and speak about 30 languages other than English.
