Freemasons take naming rights

The Dandenong Masonic Hall.

What’s in a name?
Rich history, in the case of the proposed Freemasons Lane in Dandenong.
Greater Dandenong Council is inviting community feedback on the name for a new laneway off Mason Street.
The Revitalising Central Dandenong initiative has created several new laneways and spaces west of Lonsdale Street since it started in 2008.
Building the new Quest Apartments created a laneway north of the former Dandenong Masonic Hall at 5 Mason Street.
The council proposed to call it Freemasons Lane to recognise strong links to Dandenong’s history and the Masonic Hall’s community, social and architectural significance.
It was built in 1923, was used by the Freemasons until 1991 and is to become an art gallery.
The community can provide feedback from Monday 5 December to Friday 13 January next year via namethatplace@cgd.vic.gov.au or Name that Place, City of Greater Dandenong, PO Box 200 Dandenong, Victoria 3175.
