The new Noble Park railway station will be safer and more comfortable for commuters, Premier Daniel Andrews announced on Thursday 15 December.
He said the station was part of the $1.6 billion Caulfield to Dandenong Project, which was removing nine of Victoria’s worst level crossings including those at Heatherton, Corrigan and Chandler roads in Noble Park.
Mr Andrews said the power substation to the west of the station car park would be relocated to near the Thomas and Douglas streets corner to create a new space for people to meet and wait for the train and improved access to the Douglas Street shops from Mons Parade.
The Mulgrave MP said the new area would be comfortable and fully landscaped, with bright lighting and CCTV cameras.
He said the canopies on the station would be lowered by nearly two metres to provide better shelter, and added that the drop-off zones, bicycle cages, and bus and taxi bays would be relocated to make it quicker and easier to get to the station and catch the train.
“These changes are the result of extensive community consultation, and will make the station safer, more comfortable and easier to get to,” Mr Andrews said.
“This huge project will make a real difference to people’s lives – reducing congestion, delivering more trains and making Noble Park safer.”
Caulfield to Dandenong Project construction has started and is expected to be completed by late 2018.
Locals still have an opportunity to put forward ideas for how the space under the rail line should be used, including areas near Ross Reserve and Chandler Road.
