Scout’s honour

Television news favourite Peter Hitchener was on hand to present a special award to a special Springvale Scout.
Breanne Simmons, a member of the Willara Venturer unit at the Second Springvale Scout Group, received the Queen Scout award from the presenter on Friday 12 May.
The Queen Scout award is the highest youth award in scouting.
“Having Peter Hitchener there was just awesome and he was so good with all the youth and leaders, such a lovely man,” Willara leader Leanne Morgan said.
She said Willara was the biggest unit in Greater Dandenong and Casey and “doing so many amazing things for scouting and the community”.
Ms Morgan said it was an amazing group of 14 to 18-year-olds.
“We have 23 Venturers at the moment and five leaders,” she said.
“With five leaders these kids get to experience so much that we can offer them.
“Three of their leaders have also achieved there Queen Scout many years ago and have a lot of years of scouting service, which is why the unit is so successful today and thriving.
“To keep that age group off the street and doing amazing things for scouting and community is what we love as leaders.”
