Thieves stole a car from Keysborough and torched it in Dandenong days later.
Greater Dandenong CIU is investigating the theft and fire.
Senior Constable Blake Gilbert said thieves took the grey 2006 Holden Commodore sedan from a 7-Eleven on Cheltenham Road about 6.05am on Monday 29 January.
They set it alight in Alexander Avenue on Thursday 1 February.
Police have footage from the fire scene that shows at least one Caucasian man.
