A 10-year-old boy left Dandenong’s Patterson Cheney Toyota with a new car.

Kevin, from Greenvale, won first prize in the raffle at the Melbourne Bakmaha Ulela – Sri Lankan New Year – event at Dandenong’s Greaves Reserve on Sunday 8 April.

He was “nervous and happy” when he collected the Toyota Yaris Ascent on Monday 23 April with parents Mano and Idantha.

“I’m giving it to my mum,” Kevin said.

The Sri Lankan German Technical Institute Old Boys’ Association of Australia ran the event and raffle.

They said everyone who bought a ticket was a winner because the money went to charity.

Police drew out Kevin’s winning ticket and popped in for the presentation, which included the ceremonial lighting of a traditional oil lamp and Sri Lankan food.
