Afternoon tea for the ages

There’s a nice custom going on between a childcare kindergarten and a neighbouring retirement village in Endeavour Hills.

About once a month, Rose Garden Childcare and Kindergarten children pay a visit to View Hills Manor.

Children sing songs, bear gifts and mingle with the retirement-home residents.

“The children enjoy these events so much and talk about it for days to come,” assistant director Tammy Ross said.

In a reversal, the children got to host their elders on 9 August.

The place was “filled with excitement”, as the oldies and the youngies dug in for a special afternoon tea.

It’s a special relationship that develops the children’s “sense of belonging” in the community and “awareness of the wonderful world beyond”, Ms Ross said.
